In the last home football game on Saturday Oct. 26th, St. Anthony’s Friars went on to destroy St. Francis Prep by a score of 35 to 7.
The Friars defense was on lockdown once again, letting very few passes through and holding St. Francis Prep to 51 rushing yards. On the first drive of the game the Friars forced a 3 and out with the snap of their fingers shutting down St. Francis.

The Friars passing game was also something to watch with almost every single drive leading to a touchdown. Mario Escobar Jr. led St. Anthony’s in touchdowns this week and did it mostly by finding the right hole on every run. He had 2 touchdowns and 4 last week in a huge performance against Monsignor Farrell. Quarterback Connor McCreery also had a big game with a huge 45 yard touchdown throw to wide receiver Aidan Danenza to give the Friars a commanding 21 to 0 lead. Early in the third quarter McCreery connected with wide receiver Justin Houston for another touchdown to increase the lead to 28.
With such strong performances St. Anthony’s looked like a shutout might happen. But mid third quarter St. Francis would go on to score its first touchdown despite the amazing defense played throughout the game.

With a strong 28-7 lead, Head Coach Minucci, would bring in Sophomore Nicholas Honerkamp to take over as QB. He immediately showed his speed with a big 25 yard run to put the Friars in great field position. Running Back Luke Rizzo then ran for a touchdown from five yards out. The Friars D kept doing their job holding St. Francis back.
St. Anthony’s played as a team that is looking to move up in playoff ranks this past week. With the momentum this team has they could be dangerous for the upcoming playoffs.

Justin Figueroa is a sophomore at St. Anthony’s, this is his first year at Friar Scoreboard. He is planning on studying journalism in the future and become a strong sports broadcaster.
