The Friars have done it again!! On May 21st the female Friars track and field team took home the NSCHSGAA League Championship title. They swept at this meet with their overall score of 111 points. The Friars obviously had been working hard all season and were confident that they could take the title if everything went as planned.

Starting Saint Anthony’s off with a great edge was the 1500 meter race where Lindsey Yakaboski ‘23 and Emma Rodriguez ‘23 finished in the top 3 scoring the team’s first 9 points for the day. Yakaboski was the champion for this event while also running her season best of 4:55.68! Then our Friars went on to score points in the 800m dash; which Yakaboski her second championship title of the day!

To speed things up, our Friars took the track by storm and blew away the competition in the sprints. Leading us in the spring we had our team MVP Giavanna Ciaravino ‘22 take the 100m championship title with a time of 12.13 which put her mark in NY State Top 10 for this year! Ciaravino’s top 100 meter performance was followed up by a strong second place finish in the 200 having her contribute 18 points to the final score. In the 400 meters Kayla DeSousa ‘23 had an outstanding performance with the winning time of 1:00.21 and Maggie Kemper ‘23 taking 3rd. Our sophomores’ strong performance is exciting knowing these young ladies will be back next year to try and defend and improve their marks.

Let’s pass the baton and talk relays. Saint Anthony’s brought their A Game for these events taking home the gold in all three sprint relays the 4×1, 4×4, and 4×8. Starting off with our 4×1 relay runners Giavanna Ciaravino ‘22, Camyrn Daley ‘25, Valencia Beaubrun ‘22, and Ava Russell ‘22 gave us a great start taking first place. The 4×1 recorded a time of 48.41 with Holy Trinity finishing second with a time of 49.36. The 4×4 girls which included Amelia Dejoie ‘25, Maggie Kemper ‘23, Clare Eads ‘23, and Kayla Desousa ‘23, took the track and made it their race. Even with the day’s temperature hitting almost 90 degrees!! Our girls pushed through and took the gold with the finishing time of 4:06.39. Not only did the sprinters add their names to the championship list but our 4×8 team that included Olivia Czoch ‘25, Emma Rodriguez ‘23, Lindsey Yakaboski ‘23, and Riley Griffith ‘24 won by a mile with a winning time of 10:05.00 and second place ten seconds behind with a time of 10:40.40.

In the long jump, the Friars had a great 1st and 2nd place finish. first place finisher was Valencia Beaubrun ‘22 with a mark of 16-11 and Isabella Vitola ‘22 who jumped, a personal best of 16-9.

This was a big win for our girls’ track team who have not captured the outdoor CHSAA title since 2014. This outdoor win marks the trifecta for the girls’ program who really did sweep the catholic world in running. Winning the Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor seasons, the Friars are truly back on top in the track world and will come back in the 2022-23 season working hard to defend their titles.
