On Tuesday, December 19th, St Anthony’s Boys Varsity Basketball took on Salesian at St. Anthony’s High School. The Friars were looking to advance to 5-1 with a win.

They did exactly that, blowing out Salesian 75-54.

Here are my interviews with head coach Sal Lagano and senior guard Jon Harewood:

The Friars jumped out to a big lead in the first quarter. They outscored Salesian 27-12. Head Coach Sal Lagano said “I think we were really moving the ball and we got out fast. We rebounded, guys were really getting out fast, we were looking ahead and we did a good job with our spacing. We got rolling a little bit, shots were going in, we were getting to the rim. It was a good fast start.”

Salesian didn’t quit as they actually outscored St. Anthony’s in the second quarter 14-13. At halftime the Friars led 40-26.

St Anthony’s started the third quarter like they did the first quarter, burying Salesian. They outscored Salesian 21-12 in the third quarter.

Going into the fourth quarter the Friars led 61-38. They did a great job not letting up in the fourth quarter to allow Salesian to get back into the game. Head Coach Sal Lagano said “It’s really a big time where we want to make sure we get guys some development time. We want the seniors to make sure they keep their level up. That’s just a good time to get a look at some guys. It was nice that they pulled away. They did a really good job pulling away and finishing strong.”

The Friars top performer was senior guard Jon Harewood. Harewood had 21 points and 6 assists. Harewood explained that he was able to get open because of “the way we move the ball as a team. We play really unselfish, we share the ball. And the fact that everybody on the floor is a threat. It gives me open opportunities and I credit my guys for that.”

St Anthony’s looks to continue their success after another dominant performance.
