St. Anthony’s Friar Football beat Christ the King in their Homecoming game 42-13, Fri. October 13th. Check out the coaches’ responses to student Matt Ryan’s questions about the match-up:

Interviews:

Pregame:

Matt Ryan: “Last year, Saint Anthony’s was beaten by Christ the King during week three. How have you prepared for today’s match up since last year?”

Coach Reichert: “Well, we keep reminding them the fact that we lost that game and I know our seniors remember it. You know, this is homecoming, [there are a] lot of distractions, we hope we get focused and play a good football game tonight.”

Half-time:

Matt Ryan: “During the first half, the defense was pretty much unstoppable. What was the key aspect of keeping such a strong and tight defense?”

Coach Harry Pasante (Defensive Assistant Coordinator): “We just kept it really simple, we told the kids this is up to you; you guys gotta play fast and physical. Upfront, our front seven played incredible. They couldn’t run the ball on us and we had some great coverage in the secondary. So, all good things.”

Matt Ryan: “The offense during the first half pretty much dominated the field and Christ the King was unable to stop it. What was stressed the most on offense to get these plays through?”

Coach Chris Taylor (Offensive Coordinator): “Just to start fast and get set up, execute, and just score- and kinda put them out of the game.”

Postgame:

Matt Ryan: “At the start of the fourth quarter, Christ the King’s offense gained some momentum. How did the defense have to adjust to this?”

Coach Harry Pasante (Defensive Assistant Coordinator): “We really didn’t change anything, we really didn’t make any adjustments. We just told the kids to keep playing hard, reading their keys, and doing what we’re telling them to do. The most important thing today was we got everybody out on the field and everybody had a great homecoming experience and it was a great team win, offensively, defensively, on special teams, it was all around great experience.”

Matt Ryan: “With these recent victories, it seems that the team has an excellent flow both on offense and defense. Do you think that the team can keep the momentum next week against Chaminade?”

Coach Reichert: “I certainly think the enthusiasm [will be there], a big rival, they have some records, and, you know, it’s Chaminade.”
